Daniel Mminele, Chair, Nedbank Group Limited and Nedbank Limited

Daniel is an Independent Non-Executive Director at Nedbank Group Limited and Nedbank Limited, having been appointed Chair in June 2023. Additionally, he serves as a Non-Executive Director of Africa50 and at the Youth Employment Service (RF) NPC.

Daniel has held prominent leadership roles, including Chair of Alexander Forbes Group Holdings Limited and Alexander Forbes Investments Limited, and was the Chief Executive of ABSA Group and ABSA Bank Limited. He also served two terms as Deputy Governor of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), overseeing financial markets, international economic relations and policy, as well as the Human and Operations Cluster. He was, among others, a member of the Monetary Policy Committee, the Financial Stability Committee, and the Prudential Committee. He also previously served as South Africa’s deputy at the G20 and BRICS and served as Chair of Deputies of the International Monetary and Financial Committee at the International Monetary Fund.

His early career included roles at African Merchant Bank, Commerzbank in South Africa, and WestLB in the UK and Germany, specialising in corporate credit risk analysis, project finance, and structured finance.
In 2022, Daniel led the Presidential Climate Finance Task Team, driving the Just Energy Transition Partnership and the development of the Just Energy Transition Investment Plan. During 2025 Daniel chaired the B20 Task Force on Energy Mix and Just Transition as part of South Africa’s G20 Presidency.

Daniel is on the Board of Directors of Salzburg Global Seminar, an independent organisation dedicated to creating spaces for impactful conversations that overcome barriers and help to shape a better world.
In 2018, Daniel was honoured with Germany’s Great Order of Merit for his efforts in strengthening German-South African relations and has also received a Lifetime Achiever Award from ABSIP.
